I got drunk with DragonForce last night.They played AMAZINGLY well, best I've seen out of the 4 times I have seen them live. They were very tight, polished, and it was just an amazing show. Dave said they'd been practicing, and it definitely shows! The setlist was (not in order):
Revolution Deathsquad
Operation Ground and Pound
Through the Fire and Flames
Heroes of Our Time
Valley of the Damned
Every song was just awesome. The crowd was a little quiet, but all in all it was just AMAZING. ZP's singing was spot-on, everyone played really well (Sam did mess up at one point, and the rest of the band isn't too happy with him right now). They've cut back big-time on the onstage drinking, and it really makes a difference in their performances.
Afterward, me and Paytosh went to find the DF tour bus. We hung out with Dave (their drummer, and my good friend) for a while, and then we all went to the party, which was in Disturbed's dressing room. So we ended up partying with DragonForce, Disturbed, and Slipknot, as well as various members of other bands.
Fred and Dave and us then went back to the DF tour bus, and got drunk. It was awesome. All the DF guys are really cool, and Herman was actually being very pleasant, which was nice. Usually he's a little snippy cause of being so busy. You know your life has taken a turn for the bizarre when you are sitting on the DragonForce tour bus, laying your head on Dave Mackintosh's shoulder, and watching Herman Li and ZP Theart have dinner. O_o
Paytosh (our drummer) is going to have some very interesting stories about last night. At one point, he mentioned that he'd broken his crash cymbal and had to fork out $200 for a new one. Dave then went back to his bunk, came back with one of his own 16" Paiste crash cymbals, and gave it to Paytosh. Just like that. O_o
So yeah, then it got late and Dave and I spoke alone for a while, before the bus left. He's such a sweetheart. I am so glad to have someone like him as a friend - he's one of those rare people who is just truly a good person. I <3 Dave. And the rest of the DragonForce guys, of course. ^_^
